80% Cost Accounting

20% Other Accounting duties


Cost Accountant Primary Job Functions - Responsibilities:

  • Determine monthly product profitability utilizing existing reporting procedures as well as ad hoc analytical methods

  • Assist in month-end accounting closings.

  • Reconcile all perpetual inventory balances vs. general ledger values at month-end; significant variances are investigated, with adjustments made and/or corrective action taken as required.

  • Coordinate - reconcile periodic physical inventories, including cycle counts - the wall-to-wall annual physical; determine root causes of significant book-to-physical discrepancies.

  • Participate in setting - revising cost accounting standards for departmental labor usage, material utilization, - manufacturing overhead rates; will work closely with industrial engineering - operating personnel.

  • Conduct research - perform analytical studies with regard to manufacturing spending, actual vs. standard direct labor performance, material yields, overhead costs, process improvements, - other analyses.

  • Understand product manufacturing cost flow in order to evaluate or determine production job costs - variances.

  • Weekly review of production job actual performances vs. standards - trends; a thorough grasp - comprehension of production variances is essential.

  • Responsible for Fixed Asset accounting, including verifying - tracking all construction in progress expenditures, capitalizing CIP costs at the proper time, recording monthly depreciation allocations, - recording asset sales - retirements.

  • Take the lead in developing - verifying data relevant to margin analysis, spending controls, cost avoidance, - a variety of financial analysis - special projects

  • Work with multiple departments and/or individuals in order to get a complete understanding of a process or situation.

  • Participate in internal control documentation - internal audits.

  • Assist the CFO with projects as needed.

  • This is a Manager level position - reports to the CFO.

Position Requirements-

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required - Either Finance or Accounting – MUST HAVE

  • Solid understanding of debits - credits

  • Manufacturing or distribution industry experience

  • High-volume product experience is preferred
