Responsibilities of the Sr. Mechanical Engineer include, but are not limited to:


  • Supervises Mechanical Designers, Mechanical Checkers, Mechanical Engineers and Process Engineers.

  • Provides leadership to develop and maintain strong process and mechanical engineering and product development efforts.

  • Continually challenge, grow, and develop employees for long-term value and opportunity.

  • Continually evaluate and provide recommendations for the improvement of all design and manufacturing techniques to maximize the overall facility output.

  • Reviews manufacturing schedules and estimates worker-hour requirements for completion of job assignments.

  • Reviews performance against operating plans and standards and directs changes as required.

  • Provides and manages departmental resource availability and assignments for project execution.

  • Provides processand mechanical support to field technicians and engineers and to Sales during quote development.

  • Presents periodic reports on performance as requested by Engineering Manager.

  • Defines objectives, plans, and programs within the mechanical/process engineering and product development area.

  • Develops plans and programs, together with supporting budget requests and financial estimates.

  • Identifies training requirements, initiates development of subordinates, recommends effective personnel action.

  • Provides orientation, technical guidance and on‑the‑job training for subordinates and ensures that the duties, authority and responsibility for each position are defined and understood.

  • Responsible for all mechanical and process technical aspects of projects.

  • Manages the overall design process on projects including but not limited to: Submittal Drawings, Construction Drawings and Bills of Materials for Piping, Structural and Electrical Components.

  • Ensures the design department conforms with the quality system and procedures.

  • Establishes procedures to maintain high standards of quality, reliability, and safety in package design.

  • Reduces variability across different designers, both speed and quality of work.

  • Interprets specifications, blueprints and job orders to workers and assigns duties.

  • Develops preliminary design sketches.

  • Increases departmental knowledge and use of features available in the latest CAD software.

  • Analyzes and resolves work problems and assist workers in solving work problems.

  • Coordinates activities with other supervisors.

  • Communicates quality problems with the Engineerging Manager, Project Engineer, Quality Control, Fabrication Foreman, Assembly Foreman and the Project Manager.

  • Communicates over and under load conditions to the other supervisors and the Engineer Manager.

  • Assumes other activities and responsibilities occasionally as directed.

Job Requirements

Qualifications of the Sr. Mechanical Engineer include, but are not limited to:

  • Organized, proactive, self-motivated and capable of producing work with minimal supervision.

  • Result-oriented with the ability to balance other business considerations.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret industry and company standards, customer contract requirements and related technical specifications.

  • Participative management type; advocates team concept.

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills. An ability to get along with diverse personalities coupled with a tactful, mature approach to communications

  • Experienced in the design of Packaged Systems Industrial Controls, with process and mechanical skills.

  • Sound administrative skills and well‑developed management skills.

  • Ability to recruit, train and motivate personnel in order to balance staffing strength with profitability and growth.

  • Skilled in Windows-based and manufacturing systems software.

  • Manufacturing knowledge and experience in Structure, Piping, Process and Mechanical Equipment.

  • At least 10 years of Engineering and Design experience.

Working Conditions: 90% Office, 10% shop visits and inspections.

Shift Time/Overtime: Regular business hours.

Travel: Occasional

Education: Mechanical, Chemical or Industrial Engineering degree
